Lord of the Rings writers join Del Toro on The Hobbit

There were those of us who were hoping that Peter Jackson and his amazing writing crew from the Lord of the Rings movies would somehow find their way to help Guillermo del Toro pen the upcoming Hobbit sequels.

Well hope no longer my friends, it’s happened. Del Toro, along with Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, will write the screenplay for The Hobbit, and have actually already started on it.

The first Hobbit film is set to start filming in the fall of 2009, so there is a lot of work to be done yet on that script. The sequels are scheduled for releases at Christmas time in 2011 and 2012.

I still have a tough time believing that it will be three years until we get to see the first one of these. It’s like the Lord of the Rings all over again for me. I heard about the movies 2-3 before they finally ended up in theaters and it just felt like it would never happen.

But wasn’t it worth the wait?

Let’s hope The Hobbit is as well. So far, so good.

  1. I just saw the Orphanage. So that makes a total of 3 Del Toro pics I've seen, and I'd give them all 3 out of 5. I am not excited

  2. Well, you SHOULD be excited that three OTHER writers are helping him :)

Also, you should watch Pan's Labyrinth…

  3. Yeah I gave Pan's Labyrinth 3 too,maybe 3.5

  4. The Shire is squealing.

  5. Wow…that movie was awesome…I'm surprised.

  6. Excellent news that they are helping Toro write the script. I so cannot wait, but I do hope they are on par with the LOTR trilogy.
