What to Rent: New DVD Releases for 09/16/08
I missed last week’s DVD releases, which seems to happen on occasion. My apologies for the oversight, but I’m sure you all got on just fine without me. If you rented The Forbidden Kingdom or Baby Mama, you probably did okay.
This week we have a few movies and some television shows new to DVD.
Pop Critics’ Top 10 Summer Movie Predictions Results
Way back in April Mike and I responded to an EW article that listed their predictions for the biggest movies of the summer with some predictions of our own. Now with Labor Day officially closing out the summer movie season we felt it was time to revisit our predictions and see how we fared.
Blockbuster disappointments?
I’m worried.
The outlook on the summer blockbuster season was so hot a few months ago. The titles of the films coming out blew your mind and you couldn’t wait to see them.
Then Iron Man came and fulfilled our most wild fantasies. It was awesome!

This is the newest trailer for The Incredible Hulk. It’s the one that was shown in front of Speed Racer this weekend so it’s a pretty safe bet that none of you have seen it yet.
Final Weekend Box Office Has “Speed Racer” Finishing 3rd
It looks like Mike was on to something when he asked if Speed Racer would be this year’s first official Flopbuster. We reported late Friday night that the number for Speed Racer weren’t looking good. A lot depended on the Saturday numbers, but they weren’t good either.

I invented a new word today which appears in the title of this blog post, and it may not be a great one, but I think it gets the point across.
In the second week of our summer blockbuster season, Speed Racer is looking like it could be a flop. Right now it’s tracking on Rotten Tomates with a 34%…egads. My wife said USA Today gave it 1.5 out of 4 stars.

Dear God! How many posters can one movie have? I think “Speed Racer” is going for the record.
Korean “Speed Racer” Movie Posters?
The art department working on “Speed Racer” loves movie posters so much they’re making one for everyone. Heck, even the Korean characters that no one knows are getting individual posters. I think we’re looking at a record here. “Speed Racer” doesn’t even open until May 9. Plenty of time to get some posters done for those grips and gaffers.

How many posters is too many for one movie? Someone wants to find out because we’ve just added four new posters for Speed Racer. Posters for everyone!
