Super Bowl highlights, commercials and prediction results

Wow. And I mean wow. What a game!

Most of us at the party Jina and I put on yesterday were going for the New York FOOTBALL Giants. There was maybe one pulling for the New England Patriots, but overall it was a Big Blue party.

It was an amazing game. It started so slow, with mostly defense, and came down to a few spectacular plays. Eli Manning was awesome and that catch by David Tyree will likely be one of the best ever.

The funny thing about a Super Bowl party is that you end up judging whether it was good or not by how the game was. So when you get a blow-out stinker, it’s kind of boring.

So this was likely the best Super Bowl party we’ve put on in a long time. Thanks to those AML readers that were there (The Cap’n, Adrian, Nicky…and a few others), plus all the other friends and family.

Commercials

Of course the Super Bowl is all about the commercials, even though the game itself got so good that it almost made you forget about the ads, but some were pretty awesome.

Here’s my quickie Top 5 list:

1. FedEx Carrier Pigeons - They did the dinosaur one last year and it was great too. Giant pigeons terrorizing the city was hilarious. Check it out on YouTube.

2. Baby E-Trade with spit-up - Dude, I don’t even know what this was about, but the baby telling us about his portfolio and E-trade was crazy, and then when he spit-up at the end it just brought the house down. Check it out on YouTube.

3.A Doritos Mouse Trap - Got a tie for third. Weird commercial, but there was something so friggin’ hilarious about a giant guy in a mouse suit jumping out of the wall and then beating the guy up.

3.B Justin Timberlake/Pepsi Stuff - Great commercial, loved seeing Andy Samberg and Tony Romo in it. Check it on YouTube.

4. Ironman - AWESOME trailer for the new film from Marvel and it looked HOT in high definition.

5. Charles Barkley and Dwayne Wade - I thought it was very clever for the marketing guys behind this ad campaign to give us soooo much of Wade trying to get into Barkley’s Fav 5 and then to finally give in. You wonder if it was a long setup for this final moment at the Super Bowl. Charles’ non-stop calling Wade was classic. Watch on YouTube.

There was some other good ones too…the Wine and Cheese ad from Budweiser, the girl who puts peanut scent on her with the uni-brow, Matt Hasslebeck’s “I knew I hadn’t arrived yet”, the Blimps in New York (go Charlie Brown!)…etc.

By the way, how cool was the Wanted trailer? I had no idea what that was even about…looks like a blast.

You can see a lot more commercials on YouTube’s Ad Blitz page.

Any favorites for you?

Prediction Results

So on Friday I asked you all for your predictions and there weren’t many that came close to the low score we had, but a few of us at least got the spread right, so here are the predictions, ordered from closest to furthest based on points.

Final score was 17-13, Giants.

So there you have it…close game, good predictions and a fun Super Bowl.

I wanted to add that some people thought just because people picked the Giants, it must mean that we were hating on them.

Well I truly felt the Giants could win this game if they were focused. They almost did it in Week 17 and their pass rush is the best in the league. Coupled with Tom Brady hurting a bit and the Patriots not being able to stop people on defense very well, I figured New York had a chance.

With that being said…yeah, I was probably hatin’ on New England. *grin*

And they kind of make it easy for me. Bill Belichick was such a sore loser, he couldn’t even show enough sportsmanship to stay on the field for the last :02.

Comments

Clearly the best thing about the game was that the Pat’s lost…which is the awesome! Overall, I thought the game was just OK. Close, but a bit boring until the 4th qtr, then bang it was on. Really happy for the Geeee-men and Eli.

The commercials were really mediocre compared to previous years. There were many where I was like, ‘you paid 3 mil to put THAT on?’. The ones you called out were good. I also liked the Bud light one with the guy who breathed fire.
