The Dark Knight Trailer Cut With Toy Story 2
I know that we haven’t been posting much of anything since we “officially” shut down, but I still have access to post and I found something that I just had to share with everyone.
I ran across this video on Filmonic and it’s one of the coolest trailer mashups I’ve seen. It’s video from Toy Story [...]
Lakeview Terrace Tops Disappointing Weekend at the Box Office
This weekend Samuel L. Jackson scored a number one opening with the interracial cop thriller, Lakeview Terrace, while helping Sony score their fifth number one of the year. The weekend managed to match year ago levels, but performance was underwhelming considering the line-up of new films hitting cinemas.
Burn After Reading Takes Top Spot in Strong Weekend Box Office
This weekend, for the first time ever, four new films opened to double digit grosses in the same weekend in September. The four new films accounted for 77% of the top ten films, but no one is complaining as the four films seemed to offer something to almost everyone.
The Dark Knight to be Re-Released in January
Jason has been dutifully keeping us updated on the money that The Dark Knight has been raking in, as many of us wanted to see it pass Titanic in the all-time gross list. It’s not going to happen, but I’ve been mentioning in comments recently that Warner Brothers will likely re-release it early next year to pull in additional dollars and hopefully create Oscar buzz.
It just makes sense that they would.
Michael Caine Says Johnny Depp, Philip Seymour Hoffman in next Batman
As vehemently as I was opposed to the Cher playing Catwoman rumors, I am flipping head-over-heels at the idea of Johnny Depp and Philip Seymour Hoffman becoming bad guys for the next Batman film from director Christopher Nolan.
Just what evil anti-heroes will the two be playing? According to Michael Caine who spoke to MTV News, Depp will portray The Riddler, while Hoffman waddles around as The Penguin.
Are you as thrilled about this news as I am? Two of the very best actors in the business right now putting their own spin on a couple of legendary bad guys from the Batman universe. Sounds awesome.
Pop Critics’ Top 10 Summer Movie Predictions Results
Way back in April Mike and I responded to an EW article that listed their predictions for the biggest movies of the summer with some predictions of our own. Now with Labor Day officially closing out the summer movie season we felt it was time to revisit our predictions and see how we fared.
Nic Cage Has Embarrassing #1 Opening With Bangkok Dangerous
This weekend moviegoers decided there were better things to do than actually go to the movies. The top ten movies slumped to the lowest gross in five years and got the fall movie season off to a horrible start. Nicolas Cage will get to claim another number one opening, but this one is nothing to brag about.
Awww, Two-Face is Dead
According to Aaron Eckhart and Chud.com, Two-Face is completely and utterly dead. Devin at Chud recently did an interview with Eckhart in which he ended up asking about future Batman movies and Two-Face, and this was the response:
“I asked Chris [Nolan] if there was a chance of coming back. ‘No way,’ he said. ‘He’s toast.’”
Ugh. Toast.
Brace Yourselves for the Violent Joker from DC Comics
This is the first I’ve really heard about Joker, a new original graphic novel from DC Comics and the team behind Lex Luthor: Man of Steel. It was originally going to be called Joker: The Dark Knight, but a certain movie came along and kind of ruined all that.
Too bad, it seems like it would have been a clever title to follow the Lex story.
Brian Azzarello is the writer and Lee Bermejo drew it. You can see from the image to the right that the art is going to be fantastic. Click on it for the full-sized version.
The Dark Knight Passes $500M Domestic Gross!
The Dark Knight has now added one more record to the list of records it has broken during its amazing run over the past month and a half. On Sunday morning, The Dark Knight surpassed $500M in domestic gross.
Tropic Thunder Stays On Top Of Labor Day Weekend
Labor Day weekend is the traditional close of the summer movie season and this Labor Day saw no shortage of new films being dumped into the marketplace for a last ditch effort at making a few summer dollars. Most of the new films met with failure, however, enabling Robert Downey, Jr., who opened the summer at number one with Iron Man, close out the summer at number one with Tropic Thunder.
Tropic Thunder Retains The Top Spot At The Weekend Box Office
Tropic Thunder took advantage of strong word of mouth, a softening box office, and a host of weak contenders to stay at the top of the weekend box office charts for a second week in a row. The four films opening against it were all hit-and-miss.
Tropic Thunder Unseats The Dark Knight from Top Spot at the Box Office
With a slew of new movies opening this weekend it seemed almost impossible that The Dark Knight could hold on to the top spot at the box office for a fifth week. Indeed, it was not able to as Tropic Thunder muscled its way to a top opening and forced Batman to settle for a still impressive second place finish. Five other movies also opened to varying results.
Awesome Fan Made Poster for The Dark Knight Returns - The Next Batman Film?
Here’s a little something for all you fans of The Dark Knight. This poster is almost certainly fan made, but it has great details and a nice artistic flair. In fact, if it were a real poster I would be singing the praises of the art department who dreamed it up. Instead, I have to sing the praises of an unknown fan.
Robert Downey, Jr. Trashes The Dark Knight
Maybe Robert Downey, Jr. is saying it because he’s out promoting Tropic Thunder which opens today. Or maybe he said it because he’s bitter that his summer superhero flick, Iron Man, was the toast of the town until The Dark Knight arrived. Or maybe Robert Downey, Jr. was just being completely honest. Either way, he just totally dumped all over The Dark Knight and the people who made it.
