Ving Rhames, Three More Join Bruce Willis In “The Surrogates”

Variety is reporting that Ving Rhames has joined Bruce Willis in the cast of Disney’s sci-fi thriller, The Surrogates. Jonathan Mostow will be directing the film which was written by by Michael Ferris and John Brancato and based on a graphic novel by Robert Venditti from Top Shelf Comix.

The Surrogates is set in the near future where humans live in isolation, and, rather than making the effort to step out of doors themselves, interact through surrogate robots who are basically “better-looking versions” of themselves. Willis will play a cop who uses his surrogate to investigate the murders of other surrogates. As the mystery of a conspiracy unfolds he will have to do the unthinkable and actually leave his house for the first time in years in order to solve the crimes.

Rhames will play a charismatic cult figure who disdains the use of surrogates and tries to lead an uprising against the “new world order.”

Also joining the cast is are Australian actress Radha Mitchell (Silent Hill, Finding Neverland, Pitch Black) as Willis’ professional partner, and British thespian Rosamund Pike (Die Another Day, Fracture) as his wife. Ned Vaughn (TV’s Cane and The Unit) also recently joined the cast.

Shooting is scheduled to start in April in Boston for a November 20, 2009 release.

  1. Wow, sounds awesome…good cast so far, I think I’ll have to read the graphic novel :)

  2. Your graphic novel list is starting to get pretty long. :)

  3. The problem is I haven’t finished Watchmen yet, the ending got a bit slow for me, but then just blew up, now I need to finish it so I can get on some others.

I know, the list is growing…

  4. This premise sounds intriguing among other things I have read about this, I’m looking forward to this for sure… you cant have enough sci-fi… oh and BSG is not a sci-fi show *cough Jina cough* =)
