I caught a brief mention about War, Inc. a long time ago and haven’t heard much about it since. I knew that it actually filmed back in late 2006. I recently remembered it and decided to do a little searching to find out more about it. As it turns out, there’s already a trailer, a poster, and pictures out for the film but all we have is a limited release date for the US.
War, Inc. is apparently a dark, political satire inspired by Naomi Klein’s article “Baghdad Year Zero”. Cusack wrote and produced the film. A working title of the film was Brand Hauser: Stuff Happens. The film was directed by Joshua Seftel and has a great cast that includes John Cusack, Ben Kingsley, Marisa Tomei, Hilary Duff, Joan Cusack, Dan Aykroyd, and Ben Cross.
“War, Inc.” Movie Trailer
War, Inc. is set in the future, when the desert country of Turagistan is torn by a riot after a private corporation, owned by the former US president, has taken over the whole state. John Cusack plays the role of a government assassin, who suppresses his emotions by gobbling down on hot sauce, and is sent to kill a Middle Eastern oil minister. In order to remain undercover, he poses as a production manager of a trade show which includes chaperoning a young pop star, Yonica Babiak (Hilary Duff). Everything changes, however, when the ruthless killer finds himself head-over-heels in love with a sexy reporter. The assassination does not go as planned and things get a bit complicated.

War, Inc. is set to open in limited release in the US on May 23, 2008.

Is it me or was there a time you ever thought there would be a movie with John Cusak and Hillary Duff in it????
I saw John Cusack on Inside the Actor’s Studio talking about this as a pet project for him. Something he said that he does the fluffy movies for so that he can have money and opportunities to do films like this.
I thought it was looking pretty funny right up to the end when Marisa Tomei started reading the demands of her captors. Then I thought it looked *amazingly* funny.

Loving seeing John Cusack, Joan and Marisa Tomei back on the big screen…
Cusack was on Bill Maher last Friday. Man is he a dark dude…then again, the world definitely needs more black satire inspired by Naomi Klein. I’m sold.
For you Klein fans - have you seen her collaboration with Alfonso ‘CHILDREN OF MEN’ Cuaron? Great stuff.
