Mike brought us the new poster for the new Woody Allen flick, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, yesterday. The studio followed the poster up with a brand new movie trailer to get everyone excited (yeah, I mean it in that way).
The trailer actually looks really funny, but, of course, all the focus is on the fact that Woody somehow got Penelope Cruz and Scarlett Johansson to get it on for the film. With those two I’m guessing all he did was ask.
The story of Vicky Cristina Barcelona follows Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson), two young American women who decide to go to Barcelona for a summer vacation. Vicky is the sensible one who is engaged to be married (which means she’s automatically the uptight one), and Cristina is the emotionally and sexually adventurous one (the whorish friend). In Barcelona, they, of course, get drawn into a series of unconventional romantic entanglements with Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem) because the guy’s pretty attractive when he gets a decent haircut and isn’t using an air gun to put bolts through people’s heads. Juan Antonio is a charismatic painter who is still involved with his tempestuous ex-wife Maria Elena (Penelope Cruz). Hilarity ensues.
The film premiered at Cannes and received some of Allen’s best reviews in a pretty long time. I still think it had something to do with the two chicks getting it on.
What do you think? Will you be lining up for this one? Is it for Woody Allen or the two chicks getting it on (I think I just like saying that).
Vicky Cristina Barcelona is set for US release on September 5, 2008.

I've only seen one Woody Allen film - What's Up, Tiger Lily? - in my life and that might have been enough for me (or too much, I still haven't decided). Apparently he is brilliant, but I don't get it.
Well, whether Woody Allen is a genius or not is debatable, but I'm not sure you're going to be able to enter that debate by only seeing “What's Up, Tiger Lily?” He does have some really good movies and they aren't all the same so don't let anyone tell you they are.
True. That's why I started with “apparently.”
My opinion is not solely based on Tiger Lily. I think it is based more on a bias of Allen himself. Regardless, I believe he is highly touted as a director, but I wouldn't know it first hand. Knowing some of the things he has decided to film about, eh, just not my cup of tea I guess, which is why I don't get it. There are just some people that I don't understand the mass appeal towards - like Keanu Reeves. Some of these things, I'm at a total loss.
We're all at a loss over Keanu Reeves. Heck, even Keanu Reeves can't figure out why so many people like Keanu Reeves.
That is soooo point worthy. Arrrgh and I can't give one - what's up with that?
They won't let you give points to someone who has replied directly to you. It was a nice thought, though.
The Man is just keeping me down - I know the deal…
i don't get a lot of his movies either. plus he is kinda pervy marrying his adopted daughter and all. but match point was very good! you should try that one!
I just saw “Cassandra's Dream” the other night and I thought it was quite good. One of his better movies in a while.
We”ll probably wait for the DVD.
Speak for yourself! I'm planning on camping out for tickets to this one.
Manhattan Murder Mystery is a great Woody Allen film…check it out
Not if I have anything to do with it.
I'll have to think about it, but thanks for the tip.
