"Sorry Mike, I got my big 'one month since we said I love you' celebration. Sammy's getting some hammy tonight." - Sam,       Burn Notice

Odd Thomas headed to the big screen

Dean Koontz is trying to get Odd Thomas as much publicity as he possibly can. First it was a graphic novel that told the story of one of his more popular characters.

Now it’s a movie.

Hiding In Time Getting Film Treatment

I love me some time travel!  Love it.  I’ve always enjoyed stories about time travel and now we hear that Warner Bros. has optioned yet another graphic novel to be turned into yet another film that may or may not be anything like the actual comic.  This time, however, I’m actually interested because the comic book series is called Hiding In Time.

Ultimate Bad Guy - Round 2: Magneto Bracket

All of our contestants today have one thing in common: Actually, they really have nothing in common, I just wanted to try and see if I could come up with something because of how diverse this Ultimate Bad Guy competition has been.

A comment point to whoever can think of a common thread between our four combatants today!

Ultimate Bad Guy - Round 2: Lex Luthor Bracket

The second day of Round 2 begin in Ultimate Bad Guy with the Lex Luthor Bracket. If you haven’t voted yet in yesterday’s matchups, visit the Darth Vader Bracket.

Eliminated from Round 1: Mr. Blonde, Cigarette Smoking Man, Hans Gruber and Arvin Sloane.

We’ve got some solid battles today, so let’s get right to it:

Ultimate Bad Ass - Round 2: Darth Vader Bracket

Well, the first round of Ultimate Bad Guy is behind us now, although there might be time left to vote on the Slasher Bracket if you hurry.

Now we start getting into more interesting matchups as the suckers and losers get weeded out. This week somehow ended up with a battle that is also the name of a movie.

Ultimate Bad Guy - Round 1: Slasher Bracket

It turns out that the last bracket for the first round of Ultimate Bad Guy, is my favorite.

I present you the Slasher Bracket, with all the baddest, most psychotic, murderous evil men out there. Magneto or Agent Smith be awesome bad guys, but no one scares us more than Norman Bates, or Jack from The Shining.

Ultimate Bad Guy - Round 1: Lex Luthor Bracket

This is the second group of games from Round 1 of Ultimate Bad Guy. If you haven’t voted yet on our first group, head over to the Darth Vader Bracket and then come back here to vote for these guys.

This is the Lex Luthor Bracket, and besides The Joker, this is another series of matchups that you’d never find anywhere but on Pop Critics.

Ultimate Bad Guy - Round 1: Darth Vader Bracket

Here we go. It’s time to get this Ultimate Bad Guy competition started. We’ve had a few weeks now of nominations and narrowing down contestants to a final, select group of 32 of the most ruthless, evil guys out there.

Ultimate Bad Guy - The Final 32

It took some pain and suffering, plus lots of discussion and arguments to get here, but we finally have our TOP 32 BAD GUYS with whom we’ll pit against each other in our laboratory experiment-like contest called Ultimate Bad Guy.

Who is the best bad guy of them all? There are some seriously great choices down here. Darth Vader may already have this thing won, but what about Agent Smith? The Alien? Lex Luthor?

Dean Koontz takes “Odd Thomas” to graphic novels

I thought this was kind of interesting, so I wanted to pass it on to you guys.

I’ve read the first book from Dean Koontz in the Odd Thomas series, but nothing more. It was pretty good if I recall, but I’ve not found the time to read the next three books that are already available.

Comic Grab Bag - 6/30/08

My wife recently gave me a nice gift certificate to Atomic Comics, a Phoenix area comic book store, and so on Monday I stocked up on some new reading materials.

I don’t know if this “Comic Grab Bag” will be a recurring segment on Pop Critics or not, but I thought it might be a fun one to start and we’ll see how it goes.

Pop Critics headed to Comic-Con

In some pretty awesome news yesterday, I found out that I’ll be going to the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con on July 24th-27th as a member of the press and I couldn’t be happier.

For those that know my history (or have read our About page), I used to do sports writing back in the day and covered most of the professional teams here in Phoenix, Arizona. For a couple of years there, I attended every Suns and Cardinals game, not to mention practices and training camps.
