Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage) is at it again.  In National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets, Gates is faced with the accusation that one of his ancestors actually helped in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.  As Gates tries to discover the truth and prove the innocence of his family name, Mitch Wilkinson (Ed Harris) is trying to use Gates to find the treasure he wants.

What to rent: New DVD releases for 7/15/08

A slow week in terms of movies to rent, but there is one giant title that you HAVE to see, and a few other goodies. And when I mean movies to rent, I’m talking about stuff that was just in theaters recently that you may not have gotten a chance to see.

Movie/DVD Review: “Batman: Gotham Knight” (2008)

I’d been wanting to see Batman: Gotham Knight ever since I first heard about it. The screenshots we saw early on, and then the five-minute scene we posted totally got the blood flowing.

There was another reason to check it out. Word was that it bridged the gap between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, due in theaters this Friday.

That’s all a thing of the past now. I’ve seen it and loved it.

No “Firefly” on Blu-Ray until 2009

Just a quick note to you Firefly fans out there. We told you not too long ago that the entire Firefly series would be out on high-definition Blu-Ray in September of this year, but Digital Bits is reporting that date is no longer valid.

What to rent: New DVD releases for 7/8/08

This week is a spectacular one for DVD releases. We get a great bunch of Batman releases, plus a few great TV shows, a horror film and much more. Weeks like this make me wish my full-time job was watching movies.

Firefly comes to Blu-Ray in September

I told you guys in April about Firefly finally coming to high definition DVD down the road, and now we have a release date to pass on.

It’s September 23rd, it’s on Blu-Ray and it’s exciting. My only sadness is that I DO NOT OWN a Blu-Ray player and it’s getting harder and harder all the time to ignore that fact.

What to rent: New DVD releases for 7/1/08

Another week of DVD releases, and sadly, one that couldn’t possibly live up to the numerous titles we had last Tuesday. There are some pretty cool Blu-Ray releases however, and also a TV series or two that may be of some interest.

If you are still looking for a good movie to rent, try In Bruges.

Movie Review: “27 Dresses” (2008)

Jane Nichols (Katherine Heigl) seems to find herself in just about every wedding imaginable, but she has never found the guy for her.  She is sick and tired of being in other people’s weddings and when her sister falls for the one guy Jane really liked she has had enough.

What to rent: New DVD releases for 6/24/08

Today is a big day for DVD releases if only because we finally get my favorite movie of the year so far. There’s also a cute romantic comedy, a concert, a kids fantasy film and more.

I’ve changed the format for the DVD picks up a bit. I’ve been getting comments about missing certain movies that are coming out, and that’s mainly because I don’t want to see them and therefore wont necessarily recommend them.

What to rent: New DVD releases for 6/17/08

Well, here is a fun week in DVD releases if I ever saw one. No new movies that really stand out, but there are some good TV shows to be had and some older films being re-released in Blu-Ray and deluxe editions that make me want to once again go out and purchased a PS3 so I can join the blu crew.

DVD concert review: “ZZ Top - Live In Texas”

Let me begin by saying that as a musician I am always impressed by three-piece bands, especially when they are able to sound as full as, or fuller, than some four and five piece groups. ZZ Top is no exception in this regard.

In their first ever live concert video release, scheduled to hit stores June 27, 2008 on both DVD and Blu-ray formats, this Texas trio rocks the Nokia Theater in Dallas, Texas as they romp through their catalog of crowd favorites.

What to rent: New DVD releases for 6/10/08

Finally we get a week with some OKAY releases, or at least some fun ones. We have a fantastic mini-series, a superhero-ish flick, a few cool Blu-Ray titles and two interesting TV series.

Alright, the weekend is coming fast, so let’s get to it.

Pop Critic’s tip: Get your Blockbuster Online movies faster

I know some of you out there use Blockbuster Online for your DVD renting pleasure, and if you do, we’ve got a little tip that’s sure to make your summer a lot more fun.

I give credit to my wife for this, because she figured it out all on her own.

What to rent: New DVD releases for 6/3/08

Finally we get a week with some good stuff coming out on DVD, except for the tiny fact that most of the good stuff is in the realm of Blu-Ray and high definition.

In fact, there is only one movie that I’d really recommend and that’s only because I’ve HEARD it was decent, not because I’ve seen it at all.

Peter Jackson and Del Toro talk “The Hobbit” and beyond

We’ve been keeping you updated on the progress of the new Lord of the Rings films, The Hobbit and a sequel to be titled later, and now we have some blurbs to pass on from the mouths of Peter Jackson and director Guillermo Del Toro.
