The inside scoop on the Smashing Pumpkins’ song from the Watchmen trailer

The inside scoop on the Smashing Pumpkins’ song from the Watchmen trailer

I can’t get the song out of my head from the Watchmen trailer. I heard some people grumbling about how it didn’t have a lot of power to it, but I thought it had strength in its quiet, dark tones.

In case you missed it, the song is from the Smashing Pumpkins: Rarities & B-Sides album.

First it was The Power of Love for Back to the Future, and now Huey Lewis has created a theme song for the new Judd Apatow comedy, Pineapple Express.

It stars Seth Rogan and James Franco, and it’s all about smoking pot and being chased by bad guys. At least, that’s what the trailer looks like.

Must Read: Bear McCreary’s recap of “Revelations”

We totally love Bear McCreary here at Pop Critics, mostly because the work he does on Battlestar Galactica is astounding, but a tiny bit is also because he did a nice interview with us not too long ago.

Some of you may not be that into the idea of composing music for a series, but I have to tell you, the more I’ve learned about the process from Bear’s blog, the more it fascinates me.

“The Bromance Is Gone” Music Video

I thought this music video for “The Bromance Is Gone” by Brony! Broni! Broné! might be kind of stupid. And it is. But it’s also really funny…and kind of catchy.

DVD concert review: “ZZ Top - Live In Texas”

Let me begin by saying that as a musician I am always impressed by three-piece bands, especially when they are able to sound as full as, or fuller, than some four and five piece groups. ZZ Top is no exception in this regard.

In their first ever live concert video release, scheduled to hit stores June 27, 2008 on both DVD and Blu-ray formats, this Texas trio rocks the Nokia Theater in Dallas, Texas as they romp through their catalog of crowd favorites.

Shirley Manson joins “The Sarah Connor Chronicles”

I’d never heard of Shirley Manson until Tuesday afternoon, which is not really a surprise. When it comes to bands and music, my ability to remember names, lyrics and song titles is practically non-existent.

Manson is the lead singer of Garbage and a musician from Scotland.

“Flight of the Conchords” - Sello Tape

I’ll never stop pimping Flight of the Conchords, be it the TV show or just their music in general, so I had to pass on this little video from some college guys.

On their graduation night, The Carleton Singing Knights of Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, performed their own a cappella version of the Conchords song, Sello Tape.

Full official video for Coldplay’s “Violet Hill”

Here is the official music video for the new Coldplay song, Violet Hill, which is off their new album Viva La Vida. The album wont be released until June 17th, but so far we’ve gotten good looks at their title song and now this one.

So far I’m liking what I hear from the new album. This song has a different feel to it, very retro and I just can’t place my finger on who it sounds like. I can almost hear the song I’m thinking of, but no band name comes to mind.

David Archuleta Signs Record Deal

David Archuleta may have come in second place in the season finale of American Idol Season 7, but that isn’t stopping him from moving forward with his career.

Coldplay’s new “Viva la Vida” iTunes commercial

I’m not sure how many of you like Coldplay, but I love them. Give me a round of The Killers, Snow Patrol and Coldplay and that’s an ideal set of music for me.
Well, Coldplay has a new album hitting shelves on June 17th called Viva la Vida (or Death and all his Friends). Unless you [...]

Hot new artist Charlotte Sometimes has a smash new single called “How I Could Just Kill A Man” and we’ve got your first look at the video for it right here. The video is premiering on VH1, but there’s no point in waiting when we already have it.

EXCLUSIVE: BSG’s Bear McCreary answers a few questions

Bear McCreary, the composer behind the amazing music on Battlestar Galactica, took a few moments out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions we tossed his way. I was stoked to ask him about the show ending, what he has in store for us in upcoming episodes and a bit about The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Thanks to Bear for doing this for us, because I can only imagine what kind of schedule he has putting together music day after day for this show. It’s got to be hard, hard work, although super-rewarding.

Snow Patrol working on new album

Some of you may know that Snow Patrol is my favorite band of all-time and I pimp them any chance I get. Their last album Eyes Open came out a few years ago and I have been wondering when they’ll be releasing a new one.

Well, according to a recent blog post by lead singer Gary Lightbody, a new album is in full swing. In fact, they are in the middle of Ireland and are already a week into the new stuff:

American Idol 2008 Crowns A Winner For Season 7!

No better than my record was for predicting who would get voted off every week, I suppose it was inevitable that I would get the ultimate predication wrong as well. In my recap of the Top 2 finale I disagreed with the judges enthusiasm for David Archuleta, but I was forced to agree that little David probably did enough to win the ultimate prize. Little did we know…
