Brett Favre wants what every retired athlete has ever wanted: To un-retire

Sports isn’t a normal topic around here, but since we reported Brett Favre’s retirement back in March, it seems only fitting that we also report his potential un-retirement.

Chris Mortensen from ESPN just posted an article in which he states that sources confirm Favre’s desire to play again. Favre has even supposedly talked directly to Mike McCarthy about returning to training camp this fall.

“Sportscenter” to change format in August

We rarely talk about sports on Pop Critics, but when interesting news arises from that world, it must be passed on.

Especially because I love sports. I love ESPN, Pardon the Interruption, ESPNews and of course, SportsCenter.

Movie Review: “Leatherheads” (2008)

An aging professional football player in 1925 is forced to recruit a college football star and WWI war hero to play for his team in order to save the team from bankruptcy.  Complications ensure, however, when a lady reporter comes between the two men and attempts to discover the truth of the young football star’s war record.

Don’t miss the Masters MIX on Direct TV

If you are a fan of golfing, or just like to watch it on TV, chances are you will be sat on your couch watching The Masters this weekend. Most people want to see Tiger Woods win and extend his majors streak this year, and hopefully win all four.
I usually end up falling asleep once [...]

Pardon the Interruption fools me big time

After pulling off my own quasi-April Fools joke yesterday, I completely let my guard down, turned on my favorite ESPN show, Pardon the Interruption, and proceeded to be hoodwinked like I was indeed born yesterday.

Confirmed: ESPNewsHD arrives March 30th

We reported it months ago, and showed you awesome screenshots last week, but now it’s been totally confirmed that ESPNewsHD will blast onto your high definition landscape on March 30th.

According to EngadgetHD, the providers that already have carriage agreements in place (which means they should carry it immediately) are Direct TV, Comcast and Time Warner.

The first ESPNewsHD screenshots are here!

The only reason I don’t watch as much of ESPNews as I used to is because I’ve become an HD Snob, as my wife likes to put it, and rarely do I find myself watching something that isn’t in high-def.
Well in case you all forgot, we mentioned back in late December that ESPNewsHD would launch [...]

Brett Favre retiring from the NFL after 17 seasons

Wow, this is a historic day.
Sometimes sports has a way of entering into the world of pop culture, and while it may be borderline, the fact that Brett Favre is retiring from the NFL after playing for an amazing 17 seasons, I felt it was worth noting here.
Heck, Brett Favre made some of the best [...]

Will Ferrell owns Bill Walton at HORSE

Thanks to Kory for sending in this little tidbit…
As you may have heard, Will Ferrell has a new movie coming out called Semi-Pro, a comedy sports movie that spoofs the old ABA teams before the days of NBA basketball.
In this little ESPN video, Bill Walton dresses up in a pretty good replica of how he [...]

Shaq arrives in Phoenix, promises a ring

I have to admit, I was shell-shocked Tuesday night when I found out the news that Shaquille O’Neal was coming to Phoenix and that my favorite Phoenix Suns player Shawn Marion had been traded.
Now that I’ve had a day to ponder and take it all in, I’m much better. In fact, I think I’m excited.
ESPN [...]

My head is spinning: So long Shawn Marion…for Shaq?

I wrote a few blogs tonight, I was ready for bed, decided to check to see why my cell phone’s text messaging beeps had gone off a few times earlier and BAM…the floor dropped out from under me and my world got flip turned upside down (thanks Fresh Prince).
My beloved Phoenix Suns are trading Shawn [...]

BCS Names Patriots NFL Champs

In a stunning reversal of the outcome of the Super Bowl in which the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots 17-14, officials for the BCS (college Bowl Championship Series) have stepped in to proclaim the Patriots the true NFL Champions.
“It was obvious to everyone that the NFL made a huge mistake with this [...]

Super Bowl highlights, commercials and prediction results

Wow. And I mean wow. What a game!
Most of us at the party Jina and I put on yesterday were going for the New York FOOTBALL Giants. There was maybe one pulling for the New England Patriots, but overall it was a Big Blue party.
It was an amazing game. It started so slow, with mostly [...]

The Friday Question - Giants or Patriots?

There really could only be one Friday question possible today and so you are getting it. I didn’t want to ignore the huge occasion before us this Sunday and throw in some question about your favorite Bill Murray film (although that’s a good one for later).
The New England Patriots have a chance to go 19-0 [...]
